NETHERLANDS
Netherlands by night
During a 2 weeks stay in Nuba I had a chance to have a look in different areas I hadn't seen before. After a short stay in Kadugli I went to Talodi for the first time.
TALODI
Grand entrance to Talodi, the trees were planted in 1931
Talodi market

TALODI PRIMARY SCHOOL FOR GIRLS
welcome song
in the former Government area
school uniforms look a bit different
there are clearly more teachers
but the girls sing just as much of key
as girls in the former SPLA areas
they are just as pretty
and just as curious
the school needed a paint job
and I just fell in love
with the colours
and the broad brush stroke
One of the teachers
wrote down her motto
the team agrees
it was really a lovely school
from a photographer's point of view
they kept looking at me
which was just fine of course
the head misstres
she was brave enogh to ask for a portrait
the ladies who prepare lunch
KADUGLI
This old man at Neroun Philip's home
was tortured in 1987

FROM KADUGLI TO TALODI
Way station for returning IDPs
The sign says it was sponsored by CARE
Local people keep it tidy and use it as community centre
It is mostly used in February to June, before the rainy season
A dam near Massakin
provides people with a place to wash
or just hang out
while the animals drink
and a camel is granted a little rest.
Near al Reika: ladies carrying grass to thatch the roofs.
Local white sorghum
School is just out in Frandala
and the kids just want to say hi.
Near Talodi: large centre for returning IDPs
that will be busy in the months just before the rains -
the returnees want to start cultivating rigth away
