The head of the United Nations Humanitarian Affairs, Valerie Amos, is alarmed by the allegations by the US-based Sentinel Project of mass graves and widespread atrocities in South Kordofan.
"We do not know whether there is any truth to the grave allegations of extra-judicial killings, mass graves and other grave violations in South Kordofan. We are unable to verify those due to movement restrictions imposed by the Government of Sudan, particularly against international organizations and personnel," said Amos in a statement issued Saturday.
She has called on all parties to grant the safe and unhindered passage of civilians, humanitarian personnel and assets, and noted that these serious allegations of violations of human rights need to Kordofan need to be investigated.
