Sudan's President, Omar Al Bashir, is expected to meet the President of the Government of Southern Sudan, Salva Kiir Mayradit, in Ethiopia on Monday to discuss ways of resolving the outstanding issues of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement, ahead of south Sudan's declaration of independence on Saturday. The two will attend the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) meeting in Addis Ababa, which will discuss developments in Sudan and Somalia, news agencies report.

The United States' Special Envoy on Sudan, Princeton Lyman, is also expected to participate in the talks between Bashir and Kiir. Lyman said on Sunday that he will support the on-going talks between the Sudan People's Liberation Movement-North and the National Congress Party, to reach an agreement on cessation of hostilities in South Kordofan, and to resolve matters pertaining to the future relationship between north and south Sudan.
