President of Sudan, Omar Al Bashir, and First Vice President, Salva Kiir Mayardit, are scheduled to meet on Sunday in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa. Chinese African envoy, Liu Guijin, said after a meeting with Bashir in Khartoum Saturday that the African Union mediator, Thabo Mbeki, will facilitate the meeting with emphasis on the situation in Abyei and South Kordofan.
Meanwhile, the United States has called on the Government of Sudan to prevent further escalation by immediately ceasing to pursue a military solution to the issues.
In a statement issued on Friday, the White House condemned reports that said that individuals were being targetted because of their ethnicity and political affiliation.
A senior member of the National Congress Party (NCP), Rabie Abdul Atti, dismissed the reports.
