Elections kick off calmly in South Kordofan
Sudan
3 May, 2011 (Miraya FM)
Polling for the State Legislative Assembly and the Governor's office started in South Kordofan on Monday. The process started well, with thousands of voters lining up on the first day of the poll, our correspondent reports.
Hot weather contributed to the few problems, as people complained about the heat, and lack of drinking water. Electoral officers told Radio Miraya that many voters did not check their names on the registration boards at the polling centers, causing some delays. Some voters also complained of the slow pace of the process, prompting some of them to leave the queues.
Observers from various political parties expressed hope that the polling will continue, as it started, in a calm atmosphere.
