3 May, 2011 (Miraya FM)

Over six hundred thousand voters started casting their ballots Monday in the gubernatorial and parliamentary elections in South Kordofan. Miraya's correspondents reported that the polling centres witnessed a high turnout in a relatively calm atmosphere.

The Sudan People's Liberation Movement candidate for  the post of governor, AbdelAziz Alhilu, said the security situation was calm. He hoped the entire process would be conducted peacefully.

Ahmed Haroun, the National Congress Party's gubernatorial candidate, said this election is a crucial political change in South Kordofan, adding it is a change "from bullet to ballot".
