UN calls for secure and fair elections in South Kordofan

The Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General in Sudan, Haile Menkerios, has called on the National Congress Party (NCP) and Sudan Peoples' Liberation Movement (SPLM) to ensure free and fair elections in Southern Kordofan state. Speaking to the press in Kadugli on Sunday, Menkerios stressed that the candidates and the state's security committee should ensure security of the electoral process. 

After meeting NCP gubernatorial candidate, Ahmed Harun, and rival SPLM candidate, Abdulaziz al-Hilul, Menkerios reiterated the UN's commitment to providing assistance for the polls.
