DDR Commission to Demobilize ex-Militants in North, South Kordofan States

The Federal Commission for Disarmament, Demobilization and Reintegration (DDR) targets 50,000 militants in North and South Kordofan States in the year 2011 out of 70,000 militants in the two states.
Chairman of the DDR Commission, Dr. Sulaf-Eddin Saleh, announced during his intervention in the seconnd dialogue forum under the title "Between Patron and Farmer" held Sunday in El-Obeid, North Kordofan State, that work has been completed in the 1st phase of the DDR project by registration of 22,000 demobilized ex-militants mostly in South Kordofan.
He said that the Commission's mission is to transform the demobilized ex-militants into civilians via providing them with variety of projects.
Meanwhile, the Commander of the Police Forces of North Kordofan State, Maj. Gen. Bashar Mohamed Tajer, on his part, affirmed that his state is free from clashes between the pastoral tribes and cattlemen.
Major Gen, Tajer explained that the forum is a good chance to discuss issues of herdsmen and farmers as well as working to solve them in a view that it combines between the custom and law.
