UNMIS: Over 10,000 combatants disarmed in South Kordofan

The Disarmament, Demobilisation and Reintegration (DDR) section of the UN Mission in Sudan (UNMIS) says more than 10,000 former combatants from the Sudan Armed Forces (SAF), Sudan Peoples' Liberation Army (SPLA) and the Popular Defence Force have been disarmed in Southern Kordofan State. The UNMIS DDR Team Leader in the state, Nisar Malik, said wpmen were among the combatants that were disarmed. It is expected that about 18,000 combatants would be disarmed under the DDR programme by June 2010.
