Kiir expresses dissatisfaction with census results

May 19 (Miraya FM)

The SPLM, through the Vice President of the Republic, Lieutenant General Salva Kiir Mayardit, reiterated its rejection of the recently announced 5th population census results.

This came during Kiir's opening speech at the Tribal Chiefs Peace and Reconciliation Conference held in Bentiu yesterday.

He said that the results should not be used as a basis for power and wealth sharing.

Kiir also called for not relating the census results with the upcoming elections, in addition to returning to the previous electoral constituency system so as to avoid opposition.

Meanwhile, the SPLM Spokesperson, Yien Matthew Chol, told Miraya FM that the census results carry technical mistakes and cannot be used in determining either the geographical constituencies or the power and wealth sharing.

Yien assured that the SPLM insists that the general elections should take place on schedule, adding that the National Congress Party seeks to postpone the upcoming elections.
