SPLM rejects 5th population census results

8 May, 2009 (Miraya FM)

The Sudan People's Liberation Movement has officially announced its total rejection of the 5th population census results.

In a press conference held in Khartoum yesterday, the SPLM Secretary General, Pagan Amum, said the census results are modified for political purposes.

Amum accused unnamed parties of making political interference to modify the census results, assuring SPLM's readiness to enter the elections.

In the same context, Pagan Amum said that the southern Sudanese living in the north may exceed 500 thousand people.

He added there are parties behind the increased number of the Arab ethnic groups in Darfur on the expense of African origin groups, as he puts it.
