25 April 2009 (SPLMToday)
Chairman of the SPLM and President of GOSS, comrade Salva Kiir has expressed gratitude and happiness with the SPLM Secretariat's modalities for solving problems among SPLM cadres in the Southern Sector states. This was conveyed to SPLM Deputy Secretary for Southern Sector, comrade Dr. Ann Itto at a private meeting in the Chairman's office earlier this month.
In the past few months, the southern sector was able to resolve several political differences and reconcile rivaling SPLM groups. The sector is currently working on solving issues that might have arisen after the impeachment of SPLM Chairman in Southern Kordofan, comrade Daniel Kodi.
Last month, through efforts by the SPLM General Secretariat at the southern sector in Juba, comrade Dr.Joseph Nguen Manytuil, SPLM Chairman of Unity State and comrade comrade Taban Deng, Governor of Unity state signed two documents in Juba declaring an end to a year long political difference that saw the weakening of the SPLM in that state. That led to poor state governance and split in party loyalists.
The Secretariat sent a delegation, headed by Sophia Pal Gai, SPLM Secretary for Administation at the Southern Sector to witness and facilitate the reconciliation process between the two.The delegation, accompanied by comrade Joseph Nguen arrived Bentiu on the on 23rd of March 2009 where they held a public rally, met with the SPLM State Secretariat and with members of the Caucuses.
SPLM Secretary General Pa’gan Amum, was in Bentiu to witness the great event. He congratulated the efforts of the comrades for making the right decision for the greater sake of unity, giving stability, development and prosperity a chance.
