SPLM supporters in Southern Kordofan state are saying that they want Abdel Aziz al-Hilu to be the new SPLM chairman in the state.
This comes after a vote of no-confidence against the former chairman, Daniel Kodi.
In an interview with Sudan Radio Service by phone from Kadugli, the acting SPLM chairman in the state, Adam Kurshum, said that they are going to organize a special convention to elect a new chairman.
He said that 80 percent of SPLM supporters in the state have nominated al-Hilu for the chairmanship.
[Adam Kurshum]: “In the convention, it will be the right of any comrade to stand as leader. The participants in the convention are the ones to nominate the leader of the SPLM, but all the hopes of the SPLM supporters in Southern Kordofan state are on al-Hilu, and judging by the letters written to the office, people want to nominate Abdel Aziz al-Hilu as the chairman.”
He said that al-Hilu, who is a senior member of the SPLM, has experience in solving the party’s problem in the state.
Last month the SPLM in South Kordofan passed a vote of no-confidence against Daniel Kodi, accusing him of incompetence in his handling of party issues.
