Sudan's Kiir makes key appointments to the SPLM Secretariats ahead of elections scheduled next year

On Thursday, October 2, 2008 in the Southern Sudan capital of Juba, SPLM Chairman General Salva Kiir Mayardit made several key appointments to the SPLM secretariats at the national level, Northern and Southern sectors in a move seen as a way of positioning the SPLM party for the general elections scheduled next year.

Mr. Abdel Aziz Adam El-Hilu, the long time SPLM leader in the Nuba Mountains joined the SPLM National secretariat as Secretary for Political Affairs and Mobilization, a crucial position for a party that needs to win an election. Dr. El-Wathig Kameir from Northern Sudan, seen as late Garang's new Sudan visionary, joined the national secretariat as Secretary for Training, Research and Planning.

Others who have been appointed as SPLM secretaries at the national level include former governor of Northern Bar Ghazel State Mr.Madut Biar as Secretary for Administration and Organization, Mr. Gabriel Alaak Garang,Secretary for Finance and Economic Affairs, Ms.Suzzane Jambo, Secretary for External Relations, Mr.Yen Mathew, Secretary for Culture, Information and Communication, Mr. Martin Majut Yak, Secretary for Popular and Syndicated Organizations and Dr. Mustafa Awad El-Karim, Secretary for Social Welfare and Services.

At the Southern sector secretariat, Chairman Kiir, who is also the President of South Sudan and 1st Vice President of Sudan, appointed Mr. Antipas Nyok, former SPLM secretary of Jonglei State as new Secretary for Political Affairs & Mobilization. Others appointed at the Southern Sector secretariat include Cde.Sofia Pal Gai, Secretary for Administration & Organization, Mr. Acuil Malith Bangol, Secretary for Popular & Syndicated Organization, Mr.Bol Makueng Yuol, Secretary for Culture, information & Communicatiom, Dr. Henry Wani Rondyang, Secretary for Training, Research & Planning, Cde Kuel Aguer Kuel, Secretary for Finance & Economic Affairs, Cde Nora Zangabeyo, Secretary for Social Welfare & Services

At the Northern Sector secretariat, Kiir appointed Mr.Yasir Jafar Ibrahim, Secretary for Political Affairs and Mobilization, Mr. Malong Majok, Secretary for Administration and Organization, Mr. Walid Hamid, Secretary for Popular & Syndicated Organization, Cde Kaji Jermalili Roman, Secretary for Culture, information & Communication, Mr.Ramadan Mohamed Abdulla, Secretary for Training, Research & Planning, Mr.Ramadan Hassan, Secretary for Finance & Economic Affairs, Cde Alawia Kebada,Secretary for Social Welfare & Services
