Dr Kamal Obeid Describes the decision taken by GoSS as poor and not clear

16 April 2008 (Miraya FM)

The State Minister in the Federal Ministry of Information and Communications, Dr. Kamal Obeid, described the decision taken by the government of southern Sudan regarding its stance on the new date of Census as poor and not clear.

Speaking to Miraya FM, Dr. Obeid who is also the Secretary of Information in the National Congress Party said that the Southern Sudan Government should clarify its decision.

Obeid said that such a decision shows that there is a clear reflection that there are differences in decision-making in the government of southern Sudan.

The Minister of Information and Broadcasting in the Government of South Sudan, Gabriel Changson Chang, announced earlier today that the Southern Sudan Council of Ministers has decided that the Census can start on 22nd of April provided that earlier concerns are addressed.

However, Mr. Chang said it was 'highly improbable' that these concerns could be dealt with within seven days and  called on the Government of National Unity to defer the census to a later date.
