SPLM to boost ties with South Kordofan and Southern Blue Nile States

19 March 2008 (SPLM Today)

The SPLM has pledged to boost ties with South Kordofan and Southern Blue Nile States. This followed calls from South Kordofan Deputy Governor, Daniel Kodi, and Southern Blue Nile Governor, Malik Agar. Both States fall within the geographical boundaries of Northern Sudan, but are part of the SPLM’s Southern Sector.

INC members said they were deeply disturbed by reports that the Sudanese Armed Forces were moving into South Kordofan in large numbers. There are concerns that the NCP might be trying to set the region up as a buffer zone with the South.

The SPLM said it was still waiting for the NCP to respond to its proposals on resolving the issue of oil-rich region of Abyei. The proposals include a mechanism on how the area should be governed and where its boundaries should be. Abyei represents one of the biggest challenges facing the full implementation of the CPA.
