Edward Lino denies SPLA attacking Misseirya in Abyei

28 February 2008 (Miraya FM)

The head of the SPLM in Abyei, Edward Lino, categorically denied any SPLA attack on the Misseirya in those areas. Speaking to Miraya FM Mr. Lino said that militias affiliated to the National Congress Party were involved in the attacks.

This comes in response to accusations by community leaders in Abyei that Sudan People’s Liberation Army (SPLA) attacked areas of Suf-Aradaib and Um-Nur, which are said to belong to the Misseirya tribe.

One person was reported dead while three others were injured. The leaders said that the injured people have been transferred to Mujlad hospital.

A leading leader in the Misseriya tribe in Abyei, Ghadam Azaz, told Miraya FM that the tribe defended themselves when they were attacked.
