The NCP affirms: Abyei will remain part of northern Sudan until 2011

The National Congress Party has affirmed that the area of Abyei will remain as part of northern Sudan until the referendum in 2011.

The NCP’s foreign secretary, Dr. Mustafa Osman Ismail, rejected the accusations that his party is instigating the Messeiria tribe in Abyei. Ismail said that the government is constitutionally responsible for protecting the people of Abyei even if the two partners reached an agreement on the area. 

Meanwhile, the head of the Internal Abyei Liberation Front, Mohammed Omer Al-Ansari, has arrived to Khartoum.  Al-Ansari had earlier announced in an exclusive interview with Miraya FM, the formation of a local government in Abyei, which came after the SPLM formed the Abyei administration headed by Edward Lino.
