Salva Kiir warns of the escalation of violence in the transitional areas

The First Vice-President of the Republic, and President of Government of Southern Sudan, Lt. General Salva Kiir Mayardit accused parties whom he described as the "enemies of peace," of trying to take the country back to war.

Kiir warned from the escalation of violence in the transitional areas between the Dinka and Rezeigat tribes in South Kordofan, and North of Bahar Al-Ghazal States.

In a related development, the First Vice-President called on the Darfur armed factions to return to negotiations with the Government of National Unity.

He reiterated the SPLM's commitment to reaching a lasting and  just solution to the Darfur conflict.

He also declared that a leading member of the SPLM, Abdel Aziz Adam Al-Hilo, will be responsible for the Darfur conflict file in the movement.

Salva Kiir made the statement yesterday while addressing a rally at Wau town stadium to mark the third anniversary of the signing of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement.
