National Congress Accuses Group in SPLM of Working to Hamper Peace Process and to End its Partnership

The National Congress stated that there is a group inside Sudan People's Liberation Movement (SPLM) working to hamper the peace process, dissolve the partnership between the movement and the National Congress and to ally with other forces in compliance with foreign agenda that aim to liquidate the Salvation project.

In a press conference Thursday evening, at the Headquarters, the Assistant of the President of the Republic and Deputy Secretary General for Political and Organizational Affairs, Dr. Nafie Ali Nafie, said that there were issues raised by the SPLM to justify the suspension of activities of its ministers in the federal national unity government which have no real relation with the implementation of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA), such as the democratic transformation.

He said that the SPLM was so far from democracy and not qualified to talk about National Congress impeding to the democratic transformation. Dr. Nafie said that the SPLM was much violating to the Security Arrangments' Protocol, especially regarding the re-deployment of forces. He said that the government has implemented the re-deployment of the Armed Forces by 87.4%, while the SPLM re-deplyed its forces from the north to the south by 6.7%.

He denied the SPLM claim on violation of the National Congress to rights and freedoms, describing this claim as miscalculation and will not serve the goal of implementing the peace agreement. He stressed that the National Congress is more keen to push ahead the partnership with the SPLM toward implementation of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA) in a manner which satisfies the two parties.

Dr. Nafie said that there are a number of constitutional and political institutions for solving the pending issues, hoping that these issues would be solved far away from the media.

Meanwhile, Dr. Nafie pointed out that the step adopted by the SPLM will not lead to a constitutional vacuum in the national unity government, and not expected to affect the security situation.

He said that a press conference will be held Friday evening to inform the mass media with evidence and documents on the SPLM violations to the peace agreement.
