SPLM suspends its participation in GONU

11 October, 2007 (New Sudan Vision)

Reliable sources have told the New Sudan Vision that the Sudan People Liberation Movement (SPLM) has suspended its participation in the Sudan government of national unity and has set up a crisis committee composed of:
1.Kuol Manyang Juuk
2.Pagan Amum Okiech
3. Deng Aloor Kuol
4. Malik Agar Ayar
5. Yasir Said Arman

The SPLM suspended its activities in the Sudan government due to the violation of key protocols in the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA) signed in January 2005 between the Islamic government and the Sudan People's Liberation movement/Army (SPLM/SPLA).The CPA ended a 21 years bloody war that killed 2.5 million people and displaced 4 million others.

The suspension came just a day after the Movement recalled to Juba its ministers in the Unity government for what they called "the evaluation of the implementation of the CPA." Sources reveals that the SPLM after its meeting in Juba concluded that key protocols in the CPA have been blocked by the National Congress Party (NCP) and therefore decided to suspend its participation to demand the implementation of those protocols.

Key among these are the Abyei Protocol, Wealth Sharing protocol (no transparency in the oil revenues), Power sharing protocol (undermining of the constitutional powers of the 1st vice president, none implementation of civil services jobs), security arrangement protocol( SAF has not withdrawn from the South), Protocol on the Self-Determination ( North-South border not being recognised as it was on January 1, 1956).
