The interim political bureau of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) has recalled ministers in the government of national unity to Juba .

Addressing the press soon after the end of the 5-day closed door meeting, SPLM Secretary-General Pagan Amum said the SPLM political bureau has decided to recall ministers in the government of national unity for consultations and urged the public to remain calm.

Deteriorating relations

He said that the country is “in a situation crisis because of the violation of the CPA,” adding that relations between the SPLM and the National Congress Party are “deteriorating.”

Amum stressed that “this, of course, can be reversed, can be salvaged.”

“The situation is such that we will work to implement the CPA.”

Mr. Pagan Amum also said the recommendations of the 5-day meeting were ready and awaiting the return of SPLM chairman Lt. General Salva Kiir Mayardit.

The Chairman of SPLM, who is also the first vice-president and President of the Government of South Sudan, is visiting states in the greater Bahr al-Ghazal region.

The meeting of the interim political bureau of the SPLM began in Juba on October 4. It reviewed the SPLM’s deteriorating relationship with the National Congress Party, and the implementation of the comprehensive peace agreement (CPA) among other issues.
