Mine Found and Removed
The JMM/JMC has reported1 that an old antitank mine was found and removed. The mine was located close to the Humanitarian Highway between Umm Sirdibba and Kauda. location and removal of the mine was a joint activity between the Government of Sudan and the SPLM/Nuba.
Ongoing JMM/JMC Operations in Nuba Mountains
A joint effort is underway between UNDP and JMC/JMM to build the Kauda Heiban road (25 km) with the objective of improving the livelihoods of the local communities living between the two towns. Opening up the major supply road will improve market access, daily trade and enhance accessibility by NGOs and relief agencies operating in the area.
Runway renovation and increasing the night capacity for Kadugli airport are currently underway. The objective of this activity is to render 24-hour access to the airport. The expected increase in the number of flights will boost economic conditions and trade for the surrounding villages and communities.
