Possibilities to join rebels in Sudan for peace accord

A Sudanese newspaper on July 31 reported officials as saying contacts with rebel factions were in progress to try persuade them to join in a peace accord.

Last April, the government and six rebels groups initialed (signed) an accord that does not include the mainstream Sudan People¹s Liberation Army (SPLA) of John Garang.

"Extensive contacts are being made this days with the Native Sons of State (of south Kordofan) who are under the SPLA/Jebel Nuba faction, including its Chief Yosif Kuwa," Al-Akhabar paper quoted state governor Habib Makhtoum as saying.
