South Kordofan Legislative Assembly Strapped For Cash

Southern Kordofan Legislative Assembly says it is facing many difficulties carrying out its duties due to a lack of funding from the state government.

The deputy speaker, Siddik Monsur, told Sudan Radio Service by phone from Kadugli that the state government has not allocated a separate budget for the assembly.

[Siddik Monsur]: “Money which was supposed to be given to the commission is not there and it’s a problem. It’s been 8 months since they did not receive money for transport and for the commissions within the Legislative Assembly. The speaker and his deputy have not received their salaries.”

He said that only 7 laws have been passed and about 81 bills are yet to be implemented. According to him, lack of funds is the major obstacle to implementing these bills.

Siddik Monsur said the laws to be passed include the police law, the judiciary and the land law.
