DDR allocates budget to disarm number of SPLA and SAF

Agwer Agair, member of South Sudan Disarmament Demobilization and Reintegration Commission (DDR), said that the DDR Experts Committee, has agreed to allocate a budget to disarm 3000 of the Sudan People's Liberation Army (SPLA) and the Sudan Armed Forces (SAF), 2000 in Southern Kordofan, and 1000 in the Blue Nile. This operation will continue until the end of this year.
Several Committees have also been formed to allocate funds for the programme and to prepare for a round table meeting in Juba next October.
Deputy Chairman of the DDR Committee, Dr Alias Nyamlel, told Sudan News Agency (SUNA) that the meeting discussed the functioning of the Committee in the Three Areas of Abyei, Southern Kordofan, and the Blue Nile until April next year.
In the meantime, the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, says the de-mining operations in Southern Kordofan will resume in October after it was suspended in the rainy season.
Mohamed Yaagoub, Media Director at the National De-Mining Center, told Sudan Media Center (SMC) the operations will target the Nuba Mountains and several southern States.
Yaagoub added that states will decide on which areas will be de-mined.
