Salva Kiir praises the roadmap for implementation of Abyei Protocol
Khartoum, June 8 (SUNA)
First Vice President of the Republic and President of the Government of Southern Sudan Salva Kiir Mayardit has praised the signing of the roadmap for return of the displaced persons and implementation of Abyei Protocol agreement, pointing out that it allows establishment of an administration for Abyei area in accordance with the provisions of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA) and ends the suffering of the citizens.
Addressing a celebration of approval of Abyei agreement at the Friendship Hall in Khartoum Sunday evening, Salva Kiir affirmed the responsibility of the Government of National Unity in protecting the lives of the citizens in the area and that the roadmap would allow benefiting from oil revenues in serving the area as well as boosting coexistence.
He added that the two partners in the National Congress and the Sudan People's Liberation Movement (SPLM) did not agree on the report of the experts on Abyei, but the two parties agreed in the roadmap to resort to a specialized professional arbitration body.
Salva Kiir affirmed full commitment of the SPLM to implementation of the roadmap, pointing out that the SPLM is committed to peace, democracy and stability and that peace is the sole option.
The First Vice President of the Republic called on the armed movements in Darfur to commit themselves to peace, saying that he would exert efforts for restoration of relations between Khartoum and N'djamena to end suffering of the citizens in Darfur, adding that he would visit Darfur shortly. He strongly condemned the aggression on Omdurman.
